Vryheid Tourism

Vryheid, Battlefields, N.Natal - Things to do

OVERVIEW:

Take note of the countryside as you approach Vryheid from any direction - it's a diverse marvel.

It is a part of KwaZulu-Natal that has definite seasons that turn summer's lush greenery to oatmeal coloured veld during the winter months. It has rolling hills of forests, veld and fields, and craggy, flat-topped outcrops sandwiching seams of coal. There are places several kilometres south of town that could be bushveld and vistas to the north that could be Welsh. There are more than 370 species of birds to look out for, wetlands to make a nature lover's heart beat faster and dams stocked with fat bass and other species.

Look out for the numerous game farms, sites of conservation significance and historical interest, and the Province's best-known hot spring resorts. There's a Benedictine Abbey just down the road to the south and to the east you may see a two kilometre-long train panting under its load of export coal.
